ASUW Shell House
University of Washington

Originally constructed in 1918 as a U.S. Navy seaplane hangar, the ASUW Shell House has served as the home of the University of Washington rowing program and gained international recognition through The Boys in the Boat. The renovation reimagines this historic landmark as a flexible public venue featuring an event hall, multipurpose space, exhibit gallery, and support spaces while preserving the building’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.

LSTN is providing acoustics and audiovisual consulting services for the project. Our work supports a wide range of programming, from public events and presentations to exhibits, receptions, and community gatherings. Through the thoughtful integration of room acoustics, sound isolation, building systems noise control, and audiovisual technology, we are helping create flexible spaces that respect the character of the historic structure while providing a high-quality experience for visitors, students, and event organizers.
