Bar 56 is a new wine bar and retail shop located in the Empire Stores complex in DUMBO. The project creates a combined hospitality and retail environment that sits within a historic waterfront structure known for its heavy timber construction, brick vaults, and active pedestrian setting.
LSTN developed acoustic recommendations that support a comfortable bar and dining room experience while respecting the building’s historic character. Our work focused on balancing the lively nature of the space with the need for clear comfortable conversations, controlled background sound, and limited noise transfer to adjacent tenants. Mechanical systems were designed to limit noise levels for both the bar areas and surrounding exterior environment.
LSTN designed a simple, acoustically integrated background music system tailored to the bar and retail areas. AV systems were integrated thoughtfully within the existing historic architecture. Our design provided the basis for competitive bidding to provide the best value to the owner while maintaining design intent.
