John S. McCain III Library and Museum

The John S. McCain III Library and Museum is a new civic and cultural destination at Arizona State University, honoring the legacy of John McCain while creating an active public forum for leadership and civic dialogue. Located along Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, the project integrates museum, archival, and convening functions within a prominent campus gateway.

Designed by SHoP Architects, with exhibition design by Local Projects, the facility is envisioned as a contemporary civic commons supporting immersive storytelling, public discourse, and scholarly research. The building will also serve as the Arizona headquarters for the McCain Institute. Program elements include immersive museum galleries, an archival research library, flexible convening and lecture spaces, and visitor support amenities.

LSTN is providing integrated acoustics and audiovisual consulting for both the base building and exhibit design teams. Our scope aligns architectural acoustics, building systems noise control, and AV system performance to deliver a cohesive visitor and user experience. The design supports immersive exhibition environments, flexible AV infrastructure for multipurpose event spaces, high speech intelligibility for civic and lecture functions, and low ambient noise criteria for archival and research areas.
